In 2012 we have at least three active nests of the Harpy Eagle (
Harpia harpyja) good for birwatching in Brazil, one in Pará and two in Mato Grosso state. This magnificent Eagle is the world's most powerful raptor, females being able to kill a full grown Howler or Spider Monkey at 19 pounds (9 kilos)! Main prey items are sloths, Capuchin, Saki and Spider Monkeys, agoutis, opposums and larger game birds.
